Holiday Plant tip

When purchasing your Holiday plants be sure to protect them from the cold.  Make sure your plant is wrapped before taking it outdoors.  Tropical Poinsettias are  especially sensitive to cold temperatures and even a few minutes in the cold can damage the plant.  Chill damage may not show up after a few days, when the leaves discolor and drop.

Caring For Your Cut Flowers
12/15/2009 10:06:45 AM

1. Add a floral preservative such Crysal, Floralife to a clean vase and fill half way with tepid water. If you don’t have any make your own 1 tsp. sugar, 1 tsp bleach, 2 tsps. lemon juice to 1 qt. of lukewarm water.

2. With a sharp knife or clippers recut 1-2 inches off the bottom of the stem and place immediately in tepid water. The preferred way is to cut the stems under water.

3. Remove any foliage that will be underwater. Deteriorating leaves can generate more bacteria shortening your flower life.

4. Check the water level and be sure all stems are in water. Add more water when needed. Change the water and recut the stems every 3-5 days. If it gets cloudy change more often. Keeping your Flowers away from direct sun and all vents.

6. For longer storage, store your flowers in a cool room and cover them with a plastic bag to increase humidity. You can also store them in a refrigerator at temperatures of 40-50 degrees but be sure that you don’t have any fruit or vegetables that can emit ethylene gas causing them to wilt or die rapidly.

A Practical Wedding
11/13/2009 10:17:51 AM
First off a practical wedding is creative, thrifty and sane. With today's econamy it could be nothing short of this. For some lucky people, the words would read differently, they dont care how expensive it becomes and thats OK too.
If you know the creative side of flowers then wholesale the flowers would be a great idea. Wholesale flowers are almost always packaged by the grower in bunches.  The bunch might be wrapped in a cellophane sleeve or tied together.  The number of stems might be exact, like Pompon Daisies, which are in bunches of 7.  Each variety tends to have a standard stem count per bunch, but there could be variations by grower.
Buying Flowers in Bulk

For many, the thought of buying flowers directly from the wholesale flower market sounds like a daunting task, possibly because they have no idea what to expect.
You may consider buying in bulk when special occassions call for such a purchase.
If you have only ever purchased flowers from your local retailer or received arrangements as gifts ready for display, then this is your opportunity to peek into the world of the wholesale flower market.
Lake Laniers Florist may consider selling in larger quantities, if your requested quantity is substantial enough. Some women and or even men like designing there own arrangements, for what ever occassion. You may email us with your such request at info@lakelanierflowers.com please include flower type and amount, date needed and your contact information, we do answer all requests.
